Lola’s Moves is piece for three dancers, which challenges notions of status and authority in a community of pre-school children. Ultimately, the emerging patterns in child's play are pre-cursors to patterns in adult life. In this tripartite piece: the dancer's put on three plays within the dance. By enacting childlike fantasies in each play, they are allowed a less conflicted route to positions of power and status within the piece. The source of the movement was inspired by watching children explore particular equestrian movements. The gestures repeat or pulse themselves into and out of abstraction; allowing two kinds of meaning to emerge. In the Exploration of these scenarios, games and relationships, the dance begins to confront and question the connection between fantasy and power.
